Three Reasons Why Facebook Rules and Myspace Drools

Facebook LogoIf you’re like me, you’ve doubtless been noticing how facebook is running away with the “I’m-popular-so- friend-me-and-delve-into- my-business-whenever-you-like” iGeneration social scene and leaving myspace in the dust. I must admit, I’m the most recent convert.

Here are three reasons why I’m running with arms wide open towards facebook, and leaving my south end pointing at myspace:

1) Praise God for standard profiles. One thing that annoys me above all others about myspace is the total lack of design awareness that goes into people’s profile choices. I mean, some of the color combinations and “myspace bling” makes me want to beat my face repeatedly against my desktop, to put it mildly. I know, I know. Everybody wants to be an individual. Here’s an idea: Why don’t you write something worth reading and distinguish yourself in that way? Worked for the Apostle Paul.

2) So far, no nude photos on my comments. I get about fifteen a day on myspace from people that I don’t even know, but Facebook seems to be populated mostly with real people who care that I’m a Christian and won’t put crap all over my “wall.” Thanks folks. I appreciate it.

3) Facebook for Pastors. Cynthia Ware turned me on to the e-book, but the facebook group is also pretty cool. If you’re a Pastor, and you’re not yet on facebook, you’re probably missing an opportunity to meet somebody that you might be able to influence for Jesus. That’s not to say that you can’t do the same thing on myspace, it’s just that facebook is easier for me to meet real people who want to know about Jesus.

Feel free to disagree with me, but Jesus loves facebook.
