3 Reasons Why Church Blogs Are Better Than Church Websites

So, you’re stuck on your church website, right?  You want to move forward and continue to innovate for the cause of Christ, but you’re just not sure what to do.  You could pay big bucks to a designer who will design a clean template, update it for you (for a monthly fee, of course), and possibly even host your website on their server.  Before you take that route, here are three reasons why you might want to try a blog:

1) Publishing Content is a Snap: Can you check your email?  If so, there’s a good chance that you already have all of the skills necessary to update and add content to a blog.  No Bachelor’s degree in Computer Programming will be necessary.  Besides, who has time to run a ministry and go to ITT Tech, right?

2) Google Ninjitsu: Google loves a good, frequently updated blog.  If you’re able to stay on topic and write regular articles (say, 3 per week), you’ll be primo in your area in the search engines in no time.  This leaves you with more time to administer the annual Missions Bake Sale (read as “eat cookies”) instead of worrying about updating your website before Sunday comes.

3) Blogs Are About People: And, churches are full of people, as it turns out.  Giving that “personal touch” just might be the shot in the arm that your congregation needs in order to boost attendance and increase discipleship.  Traditional, static web pages tend to have that “bureaucratic organizational” feel.  A blog is much more like having a real conversation with your flock, and even encourages them to participate by leaving comments and insights.

So, dust of that keyboard and start blogging.  It’s a brand new millennium out there,  and the vast majority of the world wide web stands ready to be evangelized.  You’ve got the right stuff, baby.  Now get out there and give it to the world!
